Your Business and the Election
/Hi Friend,
Here are a few thoughts to help carry you and your business through this week.
May you find something in here that helps you show up for yourself, your business and of course, for our country.
On focusing your mind... I don't know what will happen on Election Day, and if it will be good or bad. However, I do know for sure, that no matter what happens, I will need and want to stay in business.
On doing what you can... Focus on what you know for sure. Take action on that. Even if it's only one or two things. Seeing what you know for sure through clarifies what comes after.
On uncertainty... Being comfortable with discomfort is an essential skill to develop in entrepreneurship. In the best of times, it's always right around the corner. Remember that as business owners, we have more experience than most on dealing with discomfort.
On leading your business... There is a leadership gap in our country. Allow yourself to step into the leadership gap in your own small way. Your business and services could be a place where your ideal clients can feel some sense of leadership.
On what's essential... See yourself as a special kind of essential worker. Be a special first responder around what you're good at.
On waiting... You were made for this. Great ships were made for the open waters. Great ships were not meant to stay in the harbor. -- From my colleague Heather Dominick.
On whether it's okay to sell right now... It can be the greatest act of sanity for your clients to hire you right now.
On marketing right now now... By marketing with sensitivity and heart, you give permission to your ideal clients to invest in themselves and to focus on what they can control.
On your pace... Think consistency, not intensity. And remember, you will never always be consistent at all times. Don't be surprised by this. Start again with gentle self compassion. - Adapted from "Why Bother" by Jen Louden
On comparing... Your pace, your goals, your dreams, are yours alone to set and define. Therefore, thou shall not compare your business to someone else's pace, goals, dreams.
On energy and stamina... You have many more resources available to you, beyond your intellect. Consider exploring all your resources to help you stay in business and thrive. Your food, your meditation practice (I like this one), your emotional fuel, you spiritual practice, Quantum Physics, your friendships, your connection with Nature, etc. Become fully resourced.
On doing hard things... Sometimes running a business feels hard. Sometimes life feels hard too. And that's okay.
You can do hard things.
No, it's not easy-peasy to stay in the game of life and earning by your own wits, but it's so worth it.
I'll leave you with this new rendition of America the Beautiful shared by the congregation of my local Unitarian church that moved me to tears.
It includes three new inspiring verses, and is sung by two award-winning Blues/Gospel and Bluegrass vocalists.
Here's the link again.
Onwards,
Karin
