Changing Lives While Quietly Suffering

I swipe all of my hubby's pictures and call it #countrylife #WFH branding. Ha!

Hi Friend,

I was talking with a client about dealing with difficult clients.

She and I have been refocusing her niche, rewriting her website, transforming her hourly sessions into programs, turning free work into paid work and, best of all, adding new clients to her practice without more stress.

Despite all this good work, she discovered that some of her long-time clients are no longer fit, and that's pretty normal.

In our recent coaching conversation we summarized an important Happy Little Practice Rule-of-Thumb that I thought would be useful to share with you.

The Happy Little Practice Standard of Care:

(Drumroll please!)

ALL clients you take on...

ALL marketing you choose to engage in...

ALL aspects of your private practice or small business must meet three essential standards of care for you to have a peaceful and profitable business.

1) It must be good for clients. (This one is obvious)

2) It must be good for your family life.

3) It must be good for YOU.

When dealing with difficult clients, check in and see if working with this person meets this standard of care.

What you may find is that it "seems" like it's working for the client, and it's definitely not working for you (too much work, disruptive, unsustainable) or your family life (not profitable, pushing boundaries, depleting).

And upon closer inspection, you may also find it's not really working for the client either.

The point of a Happy Little Practice isn't to change lives while quietly suffering behind the scenes.

The point is to make a difference for clients, your family AND your own career.

Everyone must benefit, and not just the client.

We've all been there, including me (many times!)

I promise it's much easier to let go of what's no longer working when you start adding in more of what you want, like more focus, streamlined and simplified services and new clients that match where you're going and how you've evolved in your career.

Here's to setting up your own standard of care that honors your clients, your family life AND you!
