You May Not Be Great at Marketing RIGHT AWAY (And that's normal)
/Here's a quick insight that, while quick, solopreneurs get a bit frustrated with.
And it's this...
You might not be great at your marketing right away.
For example...
Don't confuse not being super skilled at booking talks (or rocking out your marketing strategy of choice) with talks not working for you.
Don't confuse "I can't find one place to give my signature talk" with no one being interested in your signature talk and your work.
Consider that no matter what core marketing strategy you choose for your business or private practice, there will need to be some skilling up and humble learning.
No one wants to go through this.
Even the people that hire me! Ha!
I didn't want to go through this either. (I still go through it when I start something new!)
It's okay, and totally normal to be frustrated with your marketing from time to time.
It would be very unusual if you didn't experience this.
Here's what to watch out for...
When you're ironing out the kinks of your main marketing strategy, it will be very, very tempting to quit and just try another one when you run into a challenge.
Then you end up with six half-baked strategies in play that keep you busy, but are largely ineffective.
Do the opposite of turning away when you feel discomfort when trying to get your marketing to work.
Do the opposite of making it mean negative, disempowering things about you or your business.
Instead, breathe, notice your patterns, be gentle on yourself, and tweak the recipe.
Give yourself time to become good at marketing.
I had to do it too.
Caveat: I am not saying giving signature talks is for everyone, so find something else to do in your marketing if you don't like this idea. But hey, if you like teaching and educating people as a marketing strategy, then I've got you covered. My entire Great Little Talks course and personalized guidance is included in the Happy Little Practice Club and you can meet with me each week to iron out the kinks and get speaking working for you.
Just don't confuse discomfort with your marketing learning curve with it not working for you.
It's so worth it.
