Selling Your Way and Enrolling New Clients
/Let's talk about selling and your Happy Little Practice.
There's the mechanics or process of selling your service.
For most of us coaches, physicians and experts, you have a conversation with a potential client, find out what's going on for them, ask clarifying questions and discover if you can be of help and, if so, offer solutions.
Marketing is letting people know you have solutions to a problem.
Selling is offering them the solutions.
Okay, mechanics aside, how do you actually sell?
I bet you know of coaches, consultants, experts, advisors, practitioners and others, who sell in a variety of ways...
Some sell with personality - They dance, they shine, they sparkle. They promise to help you sparkle too.
Some sell through lifestyle - Their imagery and life look really good. "Look at what I have and you can have that too if you work with me."
Some sell through energy - "Just be around my energy and you too will get some of this magic into your life."
Some sell through networking - They thrive when they are around others. They are well connected and can connect you too.
Others sell their celebrity - "Just be around me and the people I know and you too will succeed."
Others with their poise, charm - Everything they do is just on point. It's amazing! They will help you get it perfect too.
Some are controversial or fantastically irreverent - "Work with them and get the edge too!"
This is all well and good and it works for a lot of people.
And of course, all of this can be very authentic too - you can feel it when it is and when it's not.
However, for me, I knew I could never win the game of winning you over with those things, at least not consistently.
I would eventually be my real self and blow my cover. Ha!
I'm a professional AND I'm occasionally a little spicy, goofy and not at all perfect.
So I better zig where everyone zags, and sell differently.
I sell a philosophy (simplicity) - a minimalist business model meets earning well and living well, without needing to be internet famous
I sell a process (Happy Little Practice Method) - I have a step by step process that can be customized to fit you and allow you to be you.
I sell by relationship (You talk with me) - Where most of my colleagues have coaches who coach for them, my clients and speaking partners have a relationship with me.
I sell my style and work ethic - No magic quick fixes here, just lots of down-to-earth getting to work and a bit of fun along the way.
I zig where they zag.
Knowing how you sell (beyond the mechanics of booking a session with you or how you market) can help you do business in a way that fits you.
It can help you let go of what you think you should be doing in your marketing or selling, and make decisions based on your values, strengths and preferences.
It's good to pause and reflect on this from time to time.
What do people love about you, your presence, and how you walk your talk?
What do people remark on about how you deliver your work?
Communicate more of that.
Infuse more of that into everything you do.
It's wildly attractive to clients who want that too.
And it helps you break free from all the rules and comparing yourself to others.
Hope this helps!
